The Annual Meeting for The Community Foundation for Crawford County was held October 2, 2014 at the elegant Whispering Winds Manor bed and breakfast located in Crestline, OH.  This home was the perfect backdrop for the theme of this event -- "Coming Home." Janet Pry started out the event by presenting details of the Foundation, our mission, and naming several of the organizations receiving funds from the Foundation over the course of this year.  Janet then introduced the new President of the Foundation, Lisa Workman. Janet will continue to be involved with the Foundation and community although her official retirement date is December 31st of this year.

Lisa introduced herself to the guests and told everyone about her background before taking over the reins from Janet.  Lisa is a Crawford County native, having graduated from Crestline High School and later from Ohio Wesleyan University with a degree in English.  She moved from Crawford County 25 years ago and has lived in Florida and Hawaii.  She has extensive experience in managing non-profit organizations and is looking forward to the opportunity to help The Community Foundation for Crawford County. It is her goal, she says, to make Crawford County a Community of Choice and grow the assets of the foundation to $20 million by 2020.

Tim Stenson, the Chairman of the Board of the foundation, then surprised Janet by announcing that the annual meeting was also an opportunity for the Board to thank her for her years of dedication to the foundation and the citizens of Crawford County.  He highlighted her many achievements, from starting as a volunteer and being hired as paid staff in 1997 to growing the foundation to an organization with $1 million in assets just 10 years later, in 1994.  He pointed out that currently, the foundation's assets total more than $14 million with $300,000 being granted to local non-profit organizations this year.  Tim then announced that the board had voted to set up a fund in Janet's name at the foundation in the amount of $50,000 for scholarships to be distributed in a manner to be determined by Janet.  The board members were also very generous in providing individual contributions to that fund.

The evening was capped off with a retirement cake and a tour of the beautiful bed and breakfast, led by Sandy Campbell, the owner of Whispering Winds Manor.

RICHARD E. STEARNS Establishes Newest Scholarship at The CF4CC

The Richard E. Stearns Scholarship Fund has been established in honor of retired Crawford County elementary education teacher, Richard E. Stearns.

As one of seven children, Mr. Stearns understands the struggle for parents to fund education for all of their offspring. As a college student, Mr. Stearns learned the difficulty of paying for college on his own. He knows that while students graduating high school may be able to get a scholarship to help pay for the first year of higher education, they may find that they are having a difficult time finishing their college education due to lack of funds. He decided that something needs to be done to help those students.

Mr. Stearns generously started this scholarship so that $1,000 can be awarded annually to a Crawford County high school graduate who is entering his or her junior or senior level at an accredited institution of higher learning, with a major in an educational or medical field of study.

Applications for this scholarship are accepted through April 1st.

The CF4CC is proud to announce the 2014 SCHOLARSHIP winners!
