2014 MATCH DAY

Giving Tuesday sign resized 600(TM)

#Giving Tuesday refers to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. After our day of giving thanks, we have two for getting deals: Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Nowwe have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. #GivingTuesday is a movement to create a national day of giving to kick off the giving season. #GivingTuesday was started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation as a response to commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season. In 2013, #GivingTuesday raised $32.33 million and involved over 12,000 partenrs in 40 countries. On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. It's a simple idea!

How can YOU help?

On December 2, 2014, which is #GivingTuesday, Crawford County will be participating in The Community Foundation for Crawford County's Match Day. At 10:00 am on December 2, we are encouraging you to "take 10 to send 10." In other words, take 10 minutes to send emails/texts to at least 10 of your contacts, asking them to join you in our support of the Foundation by clicking on the link below and making a donation to the Foundation. You might even suggest they donate at least $30.00 in honor of the Foundation's 30th anniversary this year! It is important that the donations be made on that day, as the Foundation's Board of Trustees has agreed to match up to $30,000 raised that day right back to the agencies and schools for whom the dollars are being collected. The board originally approved a match up to $25,000 but that amount was just raised to coincide with our 30th Anniversary!

Our community is fortunate to have The Community Foundation for Crawford County. This past year, they have contributed some $450,000 in grants and scholarships right here in Crawford County. You probably see children laughing on one of several playscapes, visit our area's historical societies, or admire the beauty that the murals bring to downtown Bucyrus, are are seeing just a small example of the projects the Foundation helps fund. As a result, the Foundation enriches the lives of us all.

We all participate in Black Friday and Cyber Monday; now let's help The Community Foundation for Crawford County get fired up on Match Day/Giving Tuesday! Share on social media! Join our virtual party!

Donating is as easy as clicking the "Donate Today" button above!

RICHARD E. STEARNS Establishes Newest Scholarship at The CF4CC

The Richard E. Stearns Scholarship Fund has been established in honor of retired Crawford County elementary education teacher, Richard E. Stearns.

As one of seven children, Mr. Stearns understands the struggle for parents to fund education for all of their offspring. As a college student, Mr. Stearns learned the difficulty of paying for college on his own. He knows that while students graduating high school may be able to get a scholarship to help pay for the first year of higher education, they may find that they are having a difficult time finishing their college education due to lack of funds. He decided that something needs to be done to help those students.

Mr. Stearns generously started this scholarship so that $1,000 can be awarded annually to a Crawford County high school graduate who is entering his or her junior or senior level at an accredited institution of higher learning, with a major in an educational or medical field of study.

Applications for this scholarship are accepted through April 1st.

The CF4CC is proud to announce the 2014 SCHOLARSHIP winners!
